Temperate Conifer Forest Location. Temperate Conifer Forests are found in European countries like Austria, Norway, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, Czech Republic, and Slovakia. They are found in Russia, China, Japan, and Mongolia in Asia.
Temperate coniferous forests are common in the coastal areas of regions that have mild winters and heavy rainfall, or inland in drier climates or montane areas. Many species of trees inhabit these forests including pine, cedar, fir, and redwood.
The first one is devoted to classifying forests into subzones and geographical variants. Two subzones marked out traditionally: a subzone of coniferous-broad-leaved forests and a subzone of south taiga. The subzones are distinguished by positions of broad-leaved trees and nemoral herb species.
The average temperature of coniferous forest biome is 50 degrees Fahrenheit. The average winter temperature is -40°C to 20°C, while the average summer temperature is 10°C. This biome experiences long, snowy winter months and hot wet summer months.
The world’s temperate conifer forests are divided into eleven regions: Europe, continental Asia, Japan, western and eastern North America, etc. The authors describe each region’s climate zones, geology, history, floristics, illustrated with photos of conifer habitats.
One type of coniferous forest, the northern boreal forest, is found in 50° to 60°N latitudes. Another type, temperate coniferous forests, grows in lower latitudes of North America, Europe, and Asia, in the high elevations of mountains.
