  5. In Texas, there are four federal district courts, a state supreme court, a state court of appeals, and trial courts with both general and limited jurisdiction. These courts serve different purposes, which are outlined in the sections below. Click a link for information about that court type.

  7. Texas courts can be found in every county in Texas. This includes all 254 counties, some bigger than states. Most are located in rural areas. As of 2021, Texas has 3,210 judges—more than any other state—plus associate judges and senior judges. They are very busy.
