The lieutenant governor of Texas is the second-highest executive office in the government of Texas, a state in the U.S. It is the second most powerful post in Texas government because its occupant controls the work of the Texas Senate and controls the budgeting process as a leader of the Legislative Budget Board.

The Lieutenant Governor of Texas is the second-highest executive office in the government of Texas. The office of the lieutenant governor is part of both the executive and legislative branches. According to the Texas Constitution the lieutenant governor is also the President of the Texas State Senate .
On November 4, 2014, Patrick won the general election against his state Senate colleague, Democrat Leticia Van de Putte of San Antonio, to become the lieutenant governor-elect of Texas. [44] He was swept into office in a Republican landslide that saw the party retain all statewide elected offices for the fifth consecutive election.
The Lieutenant Governor of Texas is an elected official fulfilling a hybrid role in both the legislative and executive branches of Texas state government. Per the Texas Constitution, the lieutenant governor is a member of the Executive Department (executive branch) of the state.
