22 Φεβ 2012 · A detailed article on the history of this family of cattle appeared in the Winter 1979 Texas Longhorn Journal. Only about 1% of the registered cattle could trace to any Butler blood prior to 1975. Today they are one of the most sought after families for those who breed for horns.
In 1964, Schreiner founded the Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America. The YO herd were the first cattle registered with the association. To draw attention to the Longhorn and its new association, in 1966, Schreiner organized a cattle drive of Longhorn steers from San Antonio, Texas to Dodge City, Kansas. [13]
The Texas Longhorn became the foundation of the American cattle industry by claiming first rights in the untamed, newly discovered Americas more than 500 years ago. In 1690, the first herd of cattle was driven north from Mexico to land that would eventually become Texas.
Our history and the Texas Longhorn are inseparable. The TLBAA is dedicated to preserving this symbol of our heritage by protecting the pedigree, supporting and recognizing breeders, and educating the public on the numerous benefits the Texas Longhorn offers cattlemen.
