The same characteristics that the Texas Longhorn developed through the years of neglect are in demand by the cattlemen of the 21st century- calving ease, fertility, disease resistance and longevity. The number of uses and markets for this resilient breed are much more varied in today’s industry.
It’s hard to imagine any other animal having made as large an impact on its state as has the iconic Texas Longhorn. The Cattlemen’s Texas Longhorn Registry was formed by one simple goal: to conserve the “original” type of Texas Longhorn.
Texas Longhorn Conservancy is dedicated to scientific and historical research and education associated with heritage Texas Longhorn cattle, we recognize the value of this national treasure in its original phenotype (appearance) and genotype (genetics) for longhorn breeding.
The Texas Longhorn proved superior with the highest unassisted birth rate of all breeds (99.7%) and the lowest birth weight (71.3 lbs.). These old, nature-fixed, time tested qualities are making extra profits for professional ranchers through reduced labor and more live, saleable calves.
