Before a vehicle may be registered or its registration renewed, the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a county assessor-collector must verify the vehicle passed the required inspection, as indicated in the DPS Vehicle Inspection database.
As a result of House Bill 2305 passed during the 83rd legislative session (2013), the State of Texas no longer issues inspection stickers and has transitioned to a “Two Steps, One Sticker” vehicle inspection and registration program.

You will follow the steps for inspecting and registering passenger vehicles outlined on our Motorists page. Trailers with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) more than 7,500 pounds are required to pass an annual vehicle inspection. The registration sticker design has not changed.
