Vehicles are no longer required to have an inspection sticker on the vehicle’s windshield. The inspection sticker has been replaced by the Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR). Keep the VIR handy as it may need to be shown at the time of registration.
All Texas registered vehicles are required to receive an annual inspection. All inspections include a comprehensive safety inspection; however, some vehicles are required to have an emissions test in addition to the safety inspection.
17 Μαΐ 2024 · Current Requirements: Vehicles must undergo an annual safety inspection. New Law (Effective 2025): Only emissions testing is required in designated counties; safety inspections for non-commercial vehicles will no longer be necessary.
NOTE: You must get your vehicle inspected AND have it pass a state inspection before you can renew your vehicle registration. Your vehicle registration sticker displays your license plate number, county of registration and partial vehicle identification number.
