[SPOILERS] Questions about the core-plot. I just have one question that's been nagging me. If Ra's al Ghul plan was to destroy Gotham, why didn't Bane and the woman not just set off the bomb as soon as they got it?

Bruce Wayne is a broken man that rises to meet the challenges facing him...only until he is broken and must rise to meet the challenges facing him. It's called a midpoint and is actually a fairly typical device. Remember how the first half of The Dark Knight was about Batman trying to stop the Joker?
Spoilers. Why did the death of his ex cause him to retire when he became Batman as a result of his parents being shot in front of him? Why did Talia and Bane's plot require so much time that it allowed her to let her sworn enemy put his Batdick in her mouth? Why did Gotham literally send 98% of its police force underground?
Dark Knight Rises (Spoilers) Bane is able to defeat Batman because he was born in the darkness, whereas Batman has only lived in it. Batman is finally able to defeat him by being reborn in the prison, gaining the true power of darkness and fear.
