Guia Fortress is a 17th-century colonial military fort, chapel, and lighthouse complex, be part of the World Heritage Site. Fort and chapel were constructed between 1622 and 1638, after an unsuccessful attempt by the Netherlands to capture colonial Portuguese Macau from Portugal.
The Guia Fortress is one of Macau’s iconic historic sites, found on Guia Hill, the highest point in the country. Built in the 17 th century, it was once a colonial military fort that was beneficial in protecting the country from the 1622 Dutch invasion.
Guia Fortress is situated upon the top of Guia Hill, overlooking the city of Macau. It is one of the UNESCO World Heritage attractions and a common image scene of Macau seen in guidebooks. Interestingly, there is quite little to see of the actual fort.
The Guia Fortress (Portuguese: Fortaleza da Guia; Chinese: 東望洋炮台) is a 17th-century colonial military fort, chapel, and lighthouse complex in São Lázaro, Macau. The complex is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Historic Centre of Macau.
