What got me into the Pumpkins was the combination of Tonight Tonight and Thirty-Three. I found 1979 simultaneously gimmicky, creative and enjoyable.
It was very late at night, and when 1979 came on it captured some kind of aura that all of us immediately recognized. It's difficult to describe, but it makes me feel happy that I had the opportunity to experience that with them.

1979 seemed a damned long time ago when it was 1996 as it was 17 years before this song. Yet this song is 28 years old and doesn't feel that old. 1996-1979 is 17 years.
