Ornithomimids were a distinct group of theropod dinosaurs that exhibited convergent evolution with ratite birds like ostriches. They were not as strongly linked to birds as the Dromaeosauridae, but they were still representatives of the well-supported Coelurosauria group, which included birds.

Ornithomimosauria (" bird -mimic lizards") are theropod dinosaurs which bore a superficial resemblance to the modern-day ostrich. They were fast, omnivorous or herbivorous dinosaurs from the Cretaceous Period of Laurasia (now Asia, Europe and North America), as well as Africa and possibly Australia. [8]

The common ostrich was historically native to the Arabian Peninsula, and ostriches were present across Asia as far east as China and Mongolia during the Late Pleistocene and possibly into the Holocene.
