25 Οκτ 2023 · Video-assisted thoracoscopic (VAT) has been used recently to remove rid prominence. Costoplasty decreases pulmonary function in the immediate postoperative period, but that decline improves over the first year. The rotation of the apical vertebrae and rib hump can be reduced by direct vertebral derotation.
In 23 patients (3 males and 20 females) convex side thoracoplasty (rib resection at the site of the hump) was done as a first stage procedure (18 patients) or a second stage procedure (5 patients).
14 Μαρ 2007 · In the hands of an experienced surgeon, the endoscopic thoracoplasty is an excellent procedure providing the same efficacy as the open posterior thoracoplasty with less post-operative morbidity. There is however, a learning curve associated with the procedure.
VATS provides an alternative, minimally invasive route to perform thoracoplasty. VATS incisions are much smaller and more cosmetically appealing than open thoracoplasty incisions. Long-term follow-up indicates good to excellent patient outcomes.
