20 Σεπ 2022 · How long does it take to recover from thoracic surgery? Thoracic surgery recovery time varies depending on the type of operation you had. You may spend a week in the hospital after your thoracic surgery. But if you had minimally invasive surgery, you may need only three or four days to recover.
The tube is positioned in the area of the fistula, or in the case of an infected cavity, the tube is placed the full length of the cavity. Postoperatively, the tube is withdrawn slowly after fistula closure and after the infected cavity is obliterated. This process may take 6 to 8 weeks or longer.

The delay between drainage of the infected cavity and thoracoplasty ranged from 8 days to 20 months (median, 97 days). An extramusculoperiosteal thoracoplasty was performed in 22 patients (85%) after OWT (Figs 2, 3), intercostal drainage, and cavernostomy in 16, 4, and 2 patients, respectively.

The length of time you stay in hospital will vary depending on your type of operation and speed of recovery. The nurse-in-charge will discuss with you when you will be able to go home. Sometimes you may need further convalescence (time and help to recover) at your local hospital.
