In Quay Street look up at the first council house on the left. Clytus House is the site of the home of Captain Betsy Miller. In the 1850s she was probably the only woman sea captain afloat and was named as such in the House of Lords and in the Commons. Captain Betsy Miller died in 1864.
For quite a while now, North Ayrshire Council have been preparing their new Local Development Plan. This will be an extremely important document and will have a great influence over how North Ayrshire is developed over the next few years.
Stevenston ~ Town Trail. The walk starts at Stevenston Cross at the foot of Main Street in the middle of Stevenston. Take the footpath (not suitable for wheelchairs) which runs beside the burn.
