Just having a look into the history of Ayrshire farming at the wee museum in Saltcoats. The wee book "A Look Back At Ayrshire Farming" is fantastic. So interesting.... folk being put out of their jobs because of the advent of tractors, the demise of dairies in farms, how famous Ayrshire cattle stock are, etc., etc.

I'd appreciate advice on what information might be available on farming properties in the area and where I might source this.
9 Νοε 2014 · All of the farms are included in the directory, and while some of the names are very familiar ( even if they've long ceased to be farms ), others aren't. Some of them it turns out were way out in the country, because Ardrossan Parish stretched nearly as far as Dalry; Drumastle Mill is also out there, and not to be confused with Ardrossan's old ...
