Episodes: 130. Seasons: 1-4. Release. Original release: Fall 1985. ThunderCats is an American animated television series, based on characters created by Theodore “Ted” Wolf (also called Tobin Wolf), that was produced by Rankin/Bass Productions. The series debuted in 1985 and ran until 1989.
Season 1 of the show aired in 1985, consisting of 65 episodes. Seasons 2, 3, and 4 each contained twenty episodes, starting with a five-part story. The series was originally distributed by Rankin/Bass' then-parent company Telepictures Corporation, which would later merge with Lorimar Productions in 1986. [4]
Season 1 introduces the viewers to the ThunderCats, their enemies the Mutants and the main antagonist Mumm-Ra. The episodes mainly deal with the ThunderCats trying to adapt to their new home planet of Third Earth and its inhabitants as well as to fend off the attacks of the Mutants and Mumm-Ra.
Panthro introduces the ThunderTank, saving the others from a meteor shower conjured by Mumm-Ra that buries the remnants of the ThunderCats' ship. Later, Lion-O and Snarf are taken prisoner by a band of small robotic bears named Ro-Bear Berbils, lead by Ro-Bear Bill and Ro-Bear Belle.
