13 Μαρ 2019 · On inspection the soles will show small 1-3 mm pits within the epidermis (Figure 1). The condition is most often bilateral, with one foot almost always more severely affected. The weightbearing portion of the soles are most prominently involved (heel, toes, ball of foot). The vast majority of cases are asymptomatic.
Treatment of pitted keratolysis requires the application of antibiotics to the skin such as benzoyl peroxide, clindamycin, erythromycin, fusidic acid, or mupirocin. [2][5] Prevention efforts aim to keep the feet dry by using moisture-wicking shoes and socks as well as antiperspirants. [2]
