Tiziano Vecellio (Italian: [titˈtsjaːno veˈtʃɛlljo]; c. 1488/90[1] – 27 August 1576), [2] Latinized as Titianus, hence known in English as Titian (/ ˈtɪʃən / ⓘ TISH-ən), was an Italian Renaissance painter, [a] the most important artist of Renaissance Venetian painting. Titian (Tiziano Vecellio) Pieve di Cadore, Belluno, Veneto (Italy), ca. 1490 - Venice (Italy), 1576. Born to an important family from Cadore, Titan arrived in Venice around 1500-1502. There, after first working in Giovanni Bellini’s workshop, he entered that of his older brother Gentile Bellini.
A composition of Venus and Adonis by the Venetian Renaissance artist Titian has been painted a number of times, by Titian himself, by his studio assistants and by others. In all there are some thirty versions that may date from the 16th century, the nudity of Venus undoubtedly accounting for this popularity. [1]

Tiziano is the most extensive exhibition devoted to the artist’s work since the one held in Venice in 1935, and the first monographic exhibition dedicated to his work in Spain. H.R.H. the Prince of Asturias and the vice-president of the Italian Government, Gianfranco Fini opened the exhibition on June the 9th.
Titian renders the textures of his white gown and deep red mozzetta, or cape, with lively brushstrokes; their effortless appearance conceals the labor involved in the painter’s carefully crafted style. Titian portrayed Archinto when the latter occupied the diplomatic role of papal nuncio in Venice.

Titian, the greatest Italian Renaissance painter of the Venetian school. He was recognized early in his own lifetime as a supremely talented painter, and his reputation has in the intervening centuries never suffered a decline. A few of his best-known works include Venus of Urbino and Assumption.
