Tiziano Vecellio (Italian: [titˈtsjaːno veˈtʃɛlljo]; c. 1488/90[1] – 27 August 1576), [2] Latinized as Titianus, hence known in English as Titian (/ ˈtɪʃən / ⓘ TISH-ən), was an Italian Renaissance painter, [a] the most important artist of Renaissance Venetian painting. Titian, the greatest Italian Renaissance painter of the Venetian school. He was recognized early in his own lifetime as a supremely talented painter, and his reputation has in the intervening centuries never suffered a decline. A few of his best-known works include Venus of Urbino and Assumption.
