14 Αυγ 2020 · Plots of acid–base titrations generate titration curves that can be used to calculate the pH, the pOH, the pKa, and the pKb of the system. The shape of a titration curve, a plot of pH versus the amount of acid or base added, provides important information about what is occurring in solution during a titration.
Simple pH curves. All the following titration curves are based on both acid and alkali having a concentration of 1 mol dm-3. In each case, you start with 25 cm 3 of one of the solutions in the flask, and the other one in a burette.
22 Απρ 2022 · Figure 9.2.18 , for example, shows a series of titration curves for the titration of several concentrations of HCl with equimolar solutions NaOH. For titrand and titrant concentrations smaller than 10 –3 M, the change in pH at the end point is too small to provide an accurate and a precise result.
HCl and NaOH are strong acid and strong base respectively and their titration curves are similar (shape of curve) in different concentrations. NaOH + HCl = NaCl + H 2 O. Both reactants and products are in aqueous state. Important factors and equations of HCl + NaOH reaction and its titration curve. HCl and NaOH reacts in 1:1 ratio (in same amount).
In this experiment, you will examine the titration curves for strong acid-strong base and weak acid-strong base titrations. In each case, we are undergoing an acid-base neutralization reaction: [latex]\ce{HA} (aq) + \ce{OH-} (aq) \to \ce{H2O} (l) + \ce{A-}(aq)[/latex]
The reaction is: 2 NaOH (s) + CO2 (g) →Na2CO3 (aq) + H2O (l) This means that solid reagent grade sodium hydroxide is not pure enough to weigh and use directly. Furthermore, the carbonate ion interferes in acid-base titrations because 1) it is a weak base, and 2) it tends to make the color change at the end point less sharp.
Learning Outcomes. Interpret titration curves for strong and weak acid-base systems. Compute sample pH at important stages of a titration. Explain the function of acid-base indicators. As seen in the chapter on the stoichiometry of chemical reactions, titrations can be used to quantitatively analyze solutions for their acid or base concentrations.
