9 Οκτ 2023 · In July 2021 the Joint Commission (JC) announced an update to its “fluoroscopy sentinel event” (SE) definition, which became effective January 1, 2022 . The previous definition of an SE as a total (cumulative) dose of 1,500 rads (15 Gy) to a single field was, in theory, straightforward, empirical, and derivable.
Sentinel events can be caused by major mistakes and negligence on the part of a healthcare provider, and are closely investigated by healthcare regulatory authorities. Sentinel events are identified under The Joint Commission (TJC) accreditation policies to help aid in root cause analysis and to assist in development of preventive measures.
