26 Μαΐ 2017 · There is a purposeful connection between what happened on Mt. Sinai and in Acts 2. The two “miracles” from Acts 2 that we always affiliate with Pentecost are the tongues of fire resting on the people and the speaking of many languages (or tongues).
25 Μαΐ 2023 · For the Jewish people, Shavuot (Hebrew for “weeks”) marks the events described in Exodus 19, when God came down in flames of fire on Mount Sinai and gave the Ten Commandments to the Israelites seven weeks after their Exodus from Egypt.
It is called the “feast of weeks” (Ex. 34:22; Dt. 16:10), the “feast of harvest” (Ex. 23:16), and the “day of the first fruits” (Num. 28:26). The Feast of Shavuot is unique in the seven festivals given to the Jewish people in Leviticus 23 in that it is the only one that does not have a fixed date.

Shavuot Customs in Words and Pictures. Shavuot celebrates the giving of the Torah, and many customs are associated with this festival, such as learning the Torah all night (Tikkun Leil Shavuot,) eating dairy foods, decorating the synagogue with greenery, and reading the Book of Ruth.
