The following is a list of museum ships of the United States military, specifically the United States Navy and the United States Coast Guard. It represents a subset of the list of museum ships comprising museum ships located worldwide.

The dedication consists of three bronze plaques that explain the role animals played in the First World War; the tracks of dogs, horses and mules pressed into the concrete; and the bronze statue of a First World War medical service dog wearing a first aid pack on its back.
While training for combat on the fields of Yale University in 1917, Private J. Robert Conroy made friends with a brindle puppy with a short tail. He and other soldiers called the stray dog "Stubby", and soon the dog became the mascot of the 102nd Infantry, 26th Yankee Division.
Stubby has been called the most decorated war dog of the Great War and the only dog to be nominated and promoted to sergeant through combat. When the Japanese attacked on 7 December 1941, the U.S. Army possessed only a small number of sled dogs for use in arctic regions. Drawing on the lessons of the past, a group of civilians came together in the belief that dogs could serve the Army in a variety of other functions.
