Stretched along the banks of the beautiful Cane River, Natchitoches is home to three state historic sites, Creole plantations and museums all within the boundaries of the Cane River National Heritage Area. You can also download a complete parish map with points of interest.
The City of Natchitoches was incorporated on February 5, 1819, after Louisiana had become a state in 1812. It is the oldest permanent settlement in the land acquired by the Louisiana Purchase. Natchitoches is home to Northwestern State University. Its sister city is Nacogdoches, Texas.
With over 300,000 shimmering lights and more than 100 unique displays, the enchanting decorations dance upon the serene waters of Cane River Lake, evoking memories of joyful gatherings. Make plans to visit during our six week Christmas season to make fond memories that will last a lifetime.
