23 Μαρ 2021 · We document common patterns of subsurface bedrock weathering and water storage patterns across multiple individual unit hillslopes that make up a sequence of ridges and valleys with common tectonic history, lithology, and climate.
Earth's sea floor is created along great volcanic ridges that spread at rates of a few centimeters per year beneath every ocean basin. The volcanic and tectonic processes at these mid-ocean ridges ultimately determine the characteristics of the sea floor and the oceanic crust beneath it.
21 Φεβ 2024 · A new satellite, the Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) mission, was launched in December 2022. Using advanced radar technology, SWOT provides unprecedented global observations for understanding the ocean's role in climate change and how freshwater resources respond to human influence.
Seafloor topography influences ocean circulation in two basic ways. First, it steers ocean flows. Second, it provides barriers that prevent deep waters from mix-ing, except within deep passageways that connect ocean basins or in hydraulically controlled overflow regions.
Bathymetry influences ocean circulation in several ways. First, it steers large-scale ocean circulation: even relatively small ridges on the sea floor can influence the direction of major ocean currents. In the deep ocean, ridges serve as solid barriers separating bottom waters in adjacent ocean basins.
1 Ιαν 2023 · Present-day dynamic topography contributes to ∼120 m of positive global sea level. Different definitions of ocean basin influence the sea-level from dynamic topography. Effects of seafloor age and dynamic topography on sea level correlate with supercontinent Pangean cycle.
10 Ιουν 2020 · We performed this task over five major Asian basins, subject to both large climate variability and strong anthropogenic pressure for water resources and for which long-term records of in situ discharge measurements are available.
