During the very early morning hours of December 1, an EF1 tornado struck the southern part of Aurora, Missouri, killing one person at a motel and damaging a few other nearby businesses. Later that day, the deepening area of low pressure—initially over Kansas—shifted into Iowa as it occluded.

3 Οκτ 2024 · A strong storm system tracked into southeastern Kansas and the Missouri Ozarks during the late evening hours on Friday, November 30th and the early morning hours on Saturday, December 1 of 2018. Several lines of storms tracked across the area producing widespread wind damage and two tornadoes.
This outbreak was the largest December tornado event on record in Illinois history, surpassing the December 1957 tornado outbreak sequence. The most significant tornado of the event was an EF3 that impacted Taylorville, Illinois, damaging or destroying hundreds of structures and injuring 22 people.
Seven tornadoes were confirmed over southwest and south central Missouri. The tornadoes were rated EF-0 to EF-1 based on NWS Storm Surveys. Unfortunately, there was one fatality that occurred in Aurora, Missouri when a tornado struck a local motel.
