The trachea (or windpipe) is a wide, hollow tube that connects the larynx (or voice box) to the bronchi of the lungs. It is an integral part of the body's airway and has the vital function of providing air flow to and from the lungs for respiration.

The larynx is located in the anterior neck at the level of the bodies of the C3 to C6 vertebrae and connects the inferior part of the pharynx with the trachea. It also contains the vocal cords, or vocal folds, so it’s responsible for voice production.
The trachea is a tube-like structure that begins at the distal portion of the larynx, at the level of the sixth cervical vertebra. It extends inferiorly, passing from the neck, through the superior thoracic aperture and into the mediastinum.
