This work provides a sample of studies on trade and investment in the Philippines. The first section reviews the literature on Philippine trade, particularly the evolution of the country’s trade policy and their ensuing impact on different sectors and aspects of the economy. The

Trade policy has been more extensively argued in the Philippines than has any other economic policy, starting with the outcry over the administration of the import control program in the early 1950s and extending through the current debates on import liberalization.

Trade Policy. As judged by the Trade (MFN) Tariff Restrictiveness Index (TTRI), on which it is ranked 45th out of 125 countries, the Philippines’s tariff regime is less restrictive, on the whole, than that of an average East Asia and Pacific (EAP) or lower‐middle‐income country.
