22 Δεκ 2021 · The role of mentor is ever-more important. In today’s challenging and rapidly changing workplaces, a multitude of professional attributes, roles and personnel is needed to provide safe and effective nursing care. So, being a successful mentor involves wearing many hats.
Ideally, after a nurse completes orientation, he/she will be mentored. Mentoring may be a formal or informal. Process works best when it is intentional. Purpose is to: encourage, support and guide nurses in their positions so that they will continue to grow personally and professionally.
A review of the literature includes descriptions of formal and informal mentoring as well as the description of mentoring in the role transition process.
