At its best, mentoring can be a life-altering relationship that inspires mutual growth, learning, and development. Its effects can be remarkable, profound, and enduring; mentoring relationships have the capacity to transform individuals, groups, organizations, and communities.
This review exposed the lacuna in mentoring research in the workplace, provided empirical discourse on five components of mentoring and diagrammatically illustrated a conceptual model for mentoring.
General consensus proposes that mentoring is, in its most basic form, a developmental relationship grounded in and molded by philosophical, historical, and sociologi cal factors (Clutterbuck, Kochan, Lunsford, Domínguez, & Haddock‐Millar, 2017; Mullen, 2012).
