Yes, I listen to music, podcasts, and sometimes even watch YouTube while I'm playing. A lot of the time I'm playing long American freight routes where there's not much to do while the train just does its thing, so I get quite a bit of free time to do anything.
It's not on Steam. You should be able to get TRS2009 for free, for PC from the developers here: http://ts2009.trainzportal.com/free/ (I already own it, so can't claim it again)
I didn't see this. I had been playing Train Sim World 2 which was free on Epic Games. I just purchased TSW 3 and am downloading it now.
