14 Απρ 2023 · Yes, Tresaderm can be used as part of a treatment plan to address ear mites in cats. The thiabendazole component, which is an antifungal, also has an effect against ear mite eggs, preventing new mites from hatching.
The design of the container nozzle safely allows partial insertion into the ear canal for ease of administration. The amount to apply and the frequency of treatment are dependent upon the severity and extent of the lesions. Five to 15 drops should be instilled in the ear twice daily.
Tresaderm can be administered from five to 15 drops for a dog ear infection of the ear canal for seven days. This can be supplemented by a dog ear wash. However, for skin conditions, only two to four drops per square inch treated twice daily for seven days, is needed.
Therapy is with topical ivermectin in the ear (1:9 dilution of injectable 10 mg/ml in mineral oil or propylene glycol; every other day), systemic ivermectin (0.3 mg/kg PO eod) or topical Tresaderm (Merial; q 24 hrs or BID) or amitraz (1 ml of 20% product in 30 ml mineral oil; eod).
Topically, the author prefers the previously mentioned Tresaderm, which contains thiabendazole to kill the mites (and their eggs) and dexamethasone to relieve accompanying inflammation. The solution is instilled in the ear twice daily for a minimum of two weeks.
