What does that mean? Transfer speeds are usually specified in Gbit/s, Gbps, or Gigabits per second, but GT/s stands for Gigatransfers per second. The difference has to do with the encoding of the data.

For example, the PCI-E2.0 protocol supports 5.0 GT/s, that is, 5G bits can be transmitted per second on each Lane. This does not mean that every Lane of the PCIe 2.0 protocol supports a 5Gbps rate.

3 Δεκ 2018 · Here is a good explanation: Hardware: Converting GT/s to Gbps | Paolo Fabio Zaino's Blog. PCIe 4.0 has a full-duplex bandwidth of ~4GB/s per lane (actually closer to 3.9GB/s). So a PCIe 4.0 x16 port would be capable of ~64GB/s total bandwidth (~32GB/s in each direction).
