Introduction to 2 Peter AUTHOR The apostle Peter, as stated in the salutation . The writer claims to have had special revelation from the Lord concerning his demise (2Pe 1:14; cf. Jn 21:18-19), and to have been present when the Lord was transfigured on the mountain (2Pe 1:16-18; cf. Mt 17:1-9).
Yet the purpose of the two letters is quite different. 1 Peter was written to encourage Christians under the threat of violent persecution; 2 Peter was written to warn those same believers of the danger of false teachers and harmful influences.
