Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE), or triple E, is a virus caused by a bite from an infected mosquito. You may have a fever, muscle aches and feel nauseated. Severe cases can be life-threatening or cause permanent brain damage.

EEE Symptoms. It can take four to ten days after the bite of an infected mosquito to develop symptoms of EEE. Mild symptoms include fever and joint/muscle aches. Severe symptoms are fever, chills, headache and vomiting, which may progress to disorientation, seizures, and coma.
