13 Μαρ 2019 · We used two relatively long-record surface wind data sets to investigate the long-term trend of the tropical Pacific trade winds. The first is the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF)'s atmospheric reanalysis of the 20th Century (ERA20C), and the second is the Twentieth Century Reanalysis Version 2 (20CR2).
12 Ιουλ 2023 · Here we show that the last four decades featured a strengthening atmospheric circulation and stronger trade winds over the tropical Pacific, which counteracted externally-forced SST warming.
9 Ιουν 2014 · The transition to stronger trade winds in the Tropical Pacific in 1998–1999 detected in ERA-Interim is clearly visible in the only ERS-2 wind time series from both scatterometer and altimeter. This pattern cannot be attributed to a change of instrument.
12 Απρ 2022 · The enhanced trade winds affect the exchange of energy and momentum between air and sea in tropical Pacific, which may further affect the climate. However, its specific impact mechanism and physical process need further research by model simulations in the future.
The observed low-frequency sea surface temperature (SST) evolution over the western tropical Pacific warm pool is dominated by a long-term warming trend similar to the global anthropogenic warming signal (bottom black curves in Fig. 1D) that has been linked to a drying trend in the East Asian monsoon .
23 Μαΐ 2010 · The easterly trade winds in the tropical Pacific induce a surface zonal current and upwelling that maintain the east–west cold–warm SST gradient.
14 Φεβ 2017 · Human History of El Niño. Impacts and Teleconnections. Episodic shifts in winds and water currents across the equatorial Pacific can cause floods in the South American desert while stalling and drying up the monsoon in Indonesia and India.
