In general, normal ranges of free T4 for healthy people include: Children up to 5 years old: 0.8 – 2.8 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dL). Children 6 to 15 years old: 0.8 – 2.1 ng/dL. Adolescents assigned male at birth 16 to 17 years old: 0.8 – 2.8 ng/dL.

It acts as a chemical messenger, telling the thyroid gland when to start producing thyroid hormones. When thyroid hormone levels are low, more TSH is produced to stimulate production.
9 Οκτ 2024 · Normal thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels generally fall between 0.4 and 4.5 milliunits per liter (mU/L). TSH levels higher than 4.5 mU/L usually indicate an underactive thyroid ( hypothyroidism ), and low TSH levels—below 0.4 mU/L—indicate an overactive thyroid ( hyperthyroidism ).
If the level drops just a little below normal the pituitary reacts by secreting a hormone called thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), which activates the thyroid gland to produce more T4. When the thyroid hormone levels rise above normal, the ‘thermostat’ senses this and the pituitary stops secreting TSH so that the thyroid makes less T4.
