The VLB Veterans Land Loan Program is the only one of its kind in the nation—giving Texas Veterans and Military Members the opportunity to borrow money to purchase land at favorable interest rates and terms while only requiring a minimum 5% down payment. Learn More.
LAND LOAN REQUIREMENTS. To be eligible for VLB financing, the land must: Be wholly within the state of Texas. Contain at least one acre, excluding any portion beneath a dedicated public roadway or navigable waterway or subject to frequent inundation or otherwise unusable. Have legal, usable access to a public road.
Veterans Land Sale Handbook. To start bidding go to https://vlb.texas.gov/land/index.html . Please allow seven days when first creating a profile to provide sufficient time in submitting a bid. An eligible veteran submitting an offer to purchase a VLB tract may request a loan from the VLB.
The basic requirements for an applicant to participate in the Veterans Land Program are as follows: At least 18 years of age; A bona fide and legal resident of Texas on the date of application and meet one of the following service criteria: An active duty military member; A member of the Texas National Guard
The Texas Veterans Land Board (TVLB) administers a state benefit called the Veterans Housing Assistance program (VHAP). This program allows Texas Veterans and Service members to borrow funds, up to the VHAP allowed maximum amount, to purchase property located in Texas.
Spurred by returning World War II veterans, the Legislature established the Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) in 1946 to continue this tradition by providing Texas veterans with long-term, low-interest land loans. Today, the VLB oversees five veterans programs.
