This 2-letter country name abbreviation table is for me. And for you, too. I made this country name abbreviation list because, simply, I got tired of doing a search for one the infrequent times I needed it. (The two-letter codes are based on ISO 3166‑1, the codes generally used for internet URLs.)
ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 codes are two-letter country codes defined in ISO 3166-1, part of the ISO 3166 standard [1] published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), to represent countries, dependent territories, and special areas of geographical interest.
It is the first part of the ISO 3166 standard published by the International Organization for Standardization. It defines three sets of country codes: [1] ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 – two-letter country codes which are used most prominently for the Internet's country code top-level domains (with a few exceptions).
The sortable table below contains the three sets of ISO 3166-1 country codes for each of its 249 countries, links to the ISO 3166-2 country subdivision codes, and the Internet country code top-level domains (ccTLD) which are based on the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 standard with the few exceptions noted.
More common for this is the 2-letter code alpha-2. It is mainly used for assigning a country-specific domain. The European IBAN system for bank account numbers also uses this code.
