4 Οκτ 2024 · The ulnar nerve is a major peripheral nerve of the upper limb. In this article, we shall look at the applied anatomy of the nerve - its anatomical course, motor functions and cutaneous innervation. We shall also consider the clinical correlations of the damage to the ulnar nerve.
The ulnar nerve is a nerve that runs near the ulna, one of the two long bones in the forearm. The ulnar collateral ligament of elbow joint is in relation with the ulnar nerve. The nerve is the largest in the human body unprotected by muscle or bone, so injury is common. [1]
The ulnar nerve runs down the hand, where it passes behind the medial epicondyle of the humerus at the elbow. The ulnar nerve doesn’t give branches in the axilla or in the upper arm. It starts with muscular and cutaneous branches in the upper forearm and hand.
11 Σεπ 2023 · The elbow joint is a synovial joint found in the upper limb between the arm and the forearm. It is the point of articulation of three bones: the humerus of the arm and the radius and the ulna of the forearm. The elbow joint is classified structurally as a synovial joint.
This figure illustrates the relationship between the ulnar nerve at the elbow and musculoskeletal anatomy. Note the position of the nerve relative to the medial epicondyle and the aponeurosis of the flexor carpi ulnaris which forms the roof of the true cubital tunnel.
19 Ιαν 2018 · The ulnar nerve is responsible for the pain, or ‘funny bone’, sensation that occurs if the elbow bone is suddenly struck. Continual pressure on the elbow or inner forearm may cause damage.
