6 Ιουλ 2024 · Color Doppler ultrasound is an important part of the tendon sheath assessment; it can differentiate between synovial thickening which is more suggestive of chronic disease, and turbid tendon sheath fluid collection - more indicative of acute exudative tenosynovitis.
Although etiologies are broad, the most common origins of shoulder pain arise from the long head biceps tendon, the acromioclavicular joint, the subacromial bursa, and the muscles of the rotator cuff. Thankfully, ultrasound offers a simple, safe, and inexpensive tool to quickly assess the shoulder.
Examine these tendons separately on their long-axis (transverse planes) during external and internal rotation of the arm (same position as in point-2) by placing the probe over the posterior aspect of the glenohumeral joint.
Anisotropy is an artifact produced by the linear configuration of tendons whereby hypoechoic change is seen if the transducer is slightly angulated [5, 7] (Fig. 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D). This artifact can mimic hypoechoic tendinopathy, but careful minor changes to transducer angulation make anisotropy disappear whereas true pathologic findings do not.
