26 Ιουν 2018 · Rococo Art Characteristics. Though Rococo emerged from Baroque art, Rococo artists turned away from Baroque’s dramatic symbolism of the church’s power. Instead, they honed in on elegantly elevating the power and class of French aristocrats. Rococo represented “secular high fashion.”
Baroque vs Rococo. The main differences between Baroque and Rococo is that Baroque, from the late 16th to 17th century, is grand and religious, prevalent in Italy, Spain, and Germany. Rococo however, from the early 18th century, is elegant, whimsical, and linked to interior design.
Neoclassical art depicted heroic figures and moral themes from ancient history, while Rococo art depicted scenes of love, nature, and pleasure. Neoclassicism art emphasized clarity and precision in composition, while Rococo art emphasized sensuality and intimacy.
The prevailing colours in the Baroque style are heavy, dark, saturated colours: red, maroon, dark emerald, mustard. In Rococo, bright colours make way for pastel tones: pinks, light blues and lilacs. Another distinctive feature, meanwhile, is eroticism.
