6 Ιαν 2022 · The children of God are known by their obedience to God and their love for their fellow children of God (3:10, 5:2). The children of the devil are those who do not do what is right (3:10) or does not love their brother or sister (3:10). There is much more thematically that could be said about how John refers to his audience as children.
The story tells that usually, at the Lord's Supper, John was invited to give a little speech about the church life, and his words was almost always: "Little children, I tell you to love one another". When a fellow worker asked him "Brother, I think we've already understood that.
2 Σεπ 2022 · The phrase “children of God” appears 9 times in Scripture (ESV). One clear verse to explain to whom this phrase applies is John 1:12. John 1:12 (ESV) But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.
In 1 John 2:12–13, he sees a three-fold structure surrounding the repetition of “I write to you” followed by a vocative ("children", "fathers" or "young ones") followed by a hoti clause. This pattern is repeated in verse 14 with slight changes and developments.

John’s point is that just as Jesus is God’s Son, so also we in this world are the children of God. In 1 John 3:1, when discussing a similar theme, John pointed to this reality of our adoption as evidence of the amazing nature of God’s love.
