An island fixture is a fixture remote from a plumbing wall and requires special venting that differs from continuous, individual, common, and wet venting. An island fixture differs from a fixture mounted in cabinets that are attached to a wall forming a peninsula and must be vented according to Section 905.3 as shown in Figure 909.1a.
The island fixture vent shall connect to the fixture drain as required for an individual or common vent. The vent shall rise vertically to above the drainage outlet of the fixture being vented before offsetting horizontally or vertically downward.
In remodels, an A.A.V. may be used with island fixtures or remotely located sinks such as in bar, kitchen, or laundry tray locations. An A.A.V. may not be used in bathroom groups. In new construction, an A.A.V. may be used on island fixture sinks. Each A.A.V. may be used to vent only one (1) floor. Each A.A.V. must be readily accessible.
1 Μαρ 2020 · The intent of this bulletin is to clarify the use of special venting for island fixtures, commonly known as loop venting, to be used at other sink locations when structural framing conditions prohibit the standard plumbing vent system from being used.

Island sink venting shall be permitted for sinks and lavatories where the vent pipe cannot rise 6 inches above the flood level rim of the fixture before turning horizontal.
