25 Νοε 2020 · In an effort to reconnect urban populations to the biosphere, which is an urgent task to ensure human sustainability, the concept of urban ecosystem services (UES) has recently garnered scholarly and political attention.
1 Ιαν 2013 · Urban ecosystem services and ecological infrastructure can play a key role in reconnecting cities to the biosphere, restoring local commons, reducing ecological footprints, orchestrating disciplinary fields and stakeholder perspectives, and guiding policies to improve quality of life in cities.
In fact, if ecosystems - both inside and outside urban areas - are often modified to provide specific ecosystem services to inhabitants , “urban ecosystem services” are those services that are directly produced by ecological structures within urban areas or peri-urban regions.
Many methods have been applied to quantify urban ecosystem services (UESs) in the past two decades. Timely reviews of UES assessment methods are necessary for tracking the methodological progress and identifying research gaps.
