Sector New York, is the largest Coast Guard (CG) operational field command on the East Coast. The maritime community knows “The Buck Stops Here” when there are CG-related operational issues to be resolved. The main staff is located at historic Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island, NY.
The 1st District is responsible for Coast Guard activities in Northern New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine.
We execute CG operations from the waters off of Sandy Hook, NJ, north through the Port of NY/NJ, & continuing up the Hudson River to just south of Lake Champlain, and up the East River to the Long Island Sound/Connecticut border. We provide “One Stop Shopping”.
A Sector is a shore-based operational unit of the United States Coast Guard. Each Sector is responsible for the execution of all Coast Guard missions within its Area of Responsibility (AOR), with operational support from Coast Guard Cutters and Air Stations .
The purpose of this layer is to provide the United States Coast Guard with a single map layer that includes the Coast Guard Sector Boundaries and Area of Responsibility.
