12 Ιουν 2024 · A Windows server is a family of server operating systems that run on Windows technology. Developed by Microsoft and first introduced in 1993, this OS manages, stores, and runs network applications, handles large amounts of data, and supports many different enterprise-level functions.
There's nothing wrong with using Windows 7 as an app server if the performance envelope of the OS is adequate for the app and you have sized your app appropriately. For example, I've got a few systems out there that run Windows 7 as the backend for point of sale software.
Windows 7's server counterpart, Windows Server 2008 R2, was released at the same time. It was succeeded by Windows 8 in October 2012. Extended support ended on January 14, 2020, over ten years after the release of Windows 7, after which the operating system ceased receiving further updates.
