21 Αυγ 2024 · Vaniqa (eflornithine) is a prescription cream that's used to reduce unwanted facial hair growth in women. Vaniqa (eflornithine) belongs to a group of medications called ornithine decarboxylase inhibitors (ODC). It blocks a protein called ODC in the skin to slow down hair growth.
Eflornithine (Vaniqa) is a topical medication prescribed for the treatment of unwanted facial and chin hair in women ages 12 and older. Side effects, drug interactions, dosage, and pregnancy information should be reviewed prior to using this medication.
17 Αυγ 2024 · When applied to the skin, eflornithine works by blocking the action of an enzyme in hair follicles which is involved in the production of hair. It can be used alongside laser therapy, to help reduce the rate at which unwanted facial hair grows in women who have this problem.
Vaniqa interferes with an enzyme found in the hair follicle of the skin needed for hair growth. This results in slower hair growth and improved appearance where Vaniqa is applied. Vaniqa does not permanently remove hair or "cure" unwanted facial hair.
This medication is used to slow down the growth of unwanted hair on the face and under the chin in women. It should not be used for hair on other parts of the body.
Alternative hair removal techniques include shaving, waxing, epilation, electrolysis, laser treatment or bleaching. Weight loss can reduce facial hair in obese women. For some women who haven’t yet reached menopause, the contraceptive pill can be effective in managing excess hair.
