The Riverside County Vector Control Program conducts Mosquito population studies throughout the year. Encephalitis virus surveillance traps or CO2 traps have been stationed in the western portion of Riverside County and in the unincorporated areas around the City of Blythe.
Vector Control is the protection of public health through the identification, prevention, and control of pests (typically insects and rodents) that transmit infectious diseases such as West Nile Virus and Hantavirus.
In an effort to lower the number of mosquitoes and reduce the risk of disease transmission to people by infected mosquitoes, the District treats areas with elevated virus activity. These wide-area applications are typically conducted by air or by truck. Scheduled applications are posted here.
