The document provides guidance for teachers on using the most essential learning competencies (MELCs) identified for the English subject by the Department of Education.
This document outlines the learning objectives and MELCs for three topics: 1) Using modals to express permission, obligation, and prohibition. 2) Using conditionals to express arguments. 3) Employing the appropriate communicative style for various situations.
Given the nature of the MELCs, the teacher is advised to re-teach certain competencies needed for their achievement. It is also recommended that the teacher unpack the MELCs into more specific learning competencies as guided by the original 2016 English Curriculum Guide. Consider the following samples:
